Nice! I think it was a foregone conclusion - the DSi couldn't play GBA games, the 3DS can't play GBA games, so new players can't go to Hoenn unless there's a 3DS remake.
(Which, I guess, means that gen 7 could have, uh, Explosion Red / Kudzu Green, since DPPt are still playable on the 3DS? Though Kanto is accessible in HG/SS, so maybe not?)
