Pokémon Crystal Version on the 3DS!

I'm not sure how long ago it came out, but Crystal has joined Gold and Silver in the eShop. I got it yesterday (my 6-year-old and I both got it for his birthday) and... wow, generation 2's interface is infuriating, Cyndaquil doesn't learn Ember until level 12, Geodude doesn't learn Rock Throw until level 11, and the best way I found to defeat the Sprout Tower trainers was wait until their Bellsprouts' Vine Whip ran out of PP and let them Struggle into unconsciousness. Yikes.

Any suggestions on what to add to my team? Right now I have Fire Lady the Cyndaquil, Golem Lady the Geodude, and Clock Lady the Hoothoot.

Can you get a Mareep yet? From what I remember they are pretty handy early in the game.

I haven't seen one, but that doesn't mean I couldn't have gotten one; I just don't know where. I ended up buying an Abra because someone told me they could use the TMs for THUNDERPUNCH and ICE PUNCH, so now I have an Abra who can either teleport or hit you in the face with lightning. :3
