[Nuzlocke]

So I just found this comm, and am somewhat new to DW!

I see lots of discussion of BW, and I'm excited for the games, but carefully not clicking those links! I want it to be a fresh experience!

BUT as far as actually contributing - Nuzlocke runs! Who here is doing them? Who has journals/tags in their journal for their Nuzlocke? Let's share! Or if you've just been keeping things to yourself, how about the most striking thing that's happened in your run? Which rules are you using? Have you cheated at any point because it just hurt too much? Come on, let's support each other in this trying challenge!

[personal profile] houndoom is my Nuzlocke (and future general "hardmode" game challenges) journal, where I'm currently running the challenge on Yellow. I want to see your runs, guys! o/

tiny edit: For those who are all "Wait, Nuzlocke? What's that???" here are the rules! There are lots of "variant" rules that can be found if you Google around, but those are the most basic ones.

I've been meaning to try a Nuzlocke run, but have yet to do so. Personally, I enjoy the idea, but I don't know how well I'd do. I probably would cheat and not release my Pokemon, but, rather, just shove them in the box until the challenge is over.

I've been meaning to start one since hearing about it... but then black and white takes over my mind XDD perhaps along side me playing my copy of black I'll do a run on soulsilver.

I only heard of Nuzlocke recently and haven't tried it yet. But now I'm thinking of restarting my LeafGreen eventually and giving it a try. I'm intimidated by the "first Pokemon only" rule though.

Well, you already know I'm doin' it! :D Over at [personal profile] trainer as soon as I can get my scanner up and running. :| The top fell off. YEAH, WHAT? I know right.

I also realized I can't draw Caterpie to save my life.

Pokémon is hard enough for me without adding that rule in, hehe, but I love seeing other people attempt challenges - it's like NetHack, I guess, in that some people can be perfectly content "just" winning, some aren't satisfied until they've completed additional tasks (in Pokémon that'd be catching everything, or everything catchable in your version, whereas in NetHack it'd be winning once with every class...), and then some add optional challenges instead of (or in addition to, I suppose), the additional tasks. (This is clearly an example of Pokémon challenges, but there's also "only use your starter", "only use one type of Pokemon"... or in NetHack, trying to beat it without ever reading a scroll or using a polymorph spell or whatever.)

Oh my god when you put it like that I am really tempted to do a Nuzlocke run. :) (I used to do NetHack conduct runs...)

That gives me an idea for a post to this community - conducts that aren't as hardcore as Nuzlocke.

I mean, Nuzlocke kind of seems like atheist wishless genoless polyless to me, and I'm more looking for "artiwishless" or something :P

I saw someone do a Nuzlockish run that used random mystery eggs instead of the captured pokemon. That seemed a little easier, because of the likelihood of egg moves/good IVs/starters --- though still wishless genoless polyless or something. :)

I'd be interested in other conducts, too.

You know I'm doing it~ [personal profile] dragonite is my run and I'm doing a bit of a comedy/character-driven storyline as well as the basic "THIS IS WHAT IS HAPPENING IN MY RUN"

c:

Man I love these runs.

I'd never even heard of Nuzlocke before. :o
It sounds mighty interesting though. I may very well have to try it out!

I really want to have a crack at it but I'm putting it off until I have the time! WHY SO BUSY, LIFE

... also I can't be assed to move pokémon off any of my games so that I can actually start a new run sob

I had heard of this but it sounds fun so I'll be starting one once I can transfer all of the pokemon I want to save off of ruby. It'll probably take another two days because of the 24 hour restriction that pal park has >: But I'm really excited to try.

Necrocomment: I'm doing one at my Dreamwidth, under the "challenge: nuzlocke" tag. So far, I've managed to get through in decent shape, modulo the occasional moment of stark blinding terror... >_>
