pokémon announcement!

for those of you who missed the live stream - nintendo had an important pokémon-related announcement today. here's what it was for!

i didn't want to spoil it for anyone, so i've simply posted a link! o////o

opinions, thoughts? i might have to buy a 3ds now (eyeing the pikachu one right now actually!)

edited to add fun speculation to encourage discussion!

- rumours on starters typing: water/dark, fire/psychic, grass/fighting due to moves used in teaser.
- rosa or a rosa-lookalike can be spotted in the video.
- rollerblades to replace running boots?!
- old pokémon seen in video: mienfoo, pikachu, magikarp, kirlia, golurk, pansear, patrat, litwick, psyduck, sneasel (or weavile, i couldn't tell), audino, dratini. rumours that all or most will be available in the game.
- talk of character customisation.
- new region expected to be inspired by france

...I may give serious thought to saving up for a 3DS. Damn, I wasn't going to because the 3D drives me nuts, but my Lite is getting old and creaky and it is 10 months away.

likewise - 3d is honestly bad for my eyes and typically gives me headaches, but this might be worth buying one! i was really hoping i wouldn't have to get one at all, alas (_ _)

I won't get one just for this, but where my Lite has been protesting a little (In fairness I've had it several years and it's traveled all over) I may need to replace later this year anyway.

(Also, it would be nice to get back online. I haven't been able to get DS online since my ISP stopped providing WEP as an option. I know I won't be able to use the 3DS to get Black or White online, but at least I'll be able to get new games online.)

So excited! I can't actually watch the videos, but the screencaps at least make it look great. If Fennekin breaks the fire/fighting chain in later evos, I'm going with that because we haven't had a non-fire/fighter introduced since G/S/C; if not, going with Chespin.

there are rumours that it's fire/psychic, which would be excellent! but rumours are rumours~ why can't you watch the videos?

Fire/psychic would be great; new starter type combos in general would be, actually. I'd love another set of dual-type starters.

My computer won't play most online videos. I imagine I could fix that if I really wanted to install the software, but it does help keep distraction potential down when I'm writing or otherwise trying to do something.

... maybe a chipmunk? Not sure. I'm getting a rodent vibe, but no clear animal-of-origin.

I will probably cry with joy if Fennekin breaks the FireFighter starter chain. It's not a bad type combination, but the fact that it's been in three games in a row and 60% of all fire starters? Yeah, I would like to apply for a change.

the fire starters recently haven't appealed to me much but assuming fennekin's evolution line is decent and it's true that it's part psychic, i'll be all over that.

then again... some people are saying fire/ground? so much speculation!

I woudln't've thought they'd do three in a row, and yet, here we are.

Hmm; folkloric-ly, I think fire/psychic (or fire/dark or fire/ghost) makes more sense for a fox-based Pokémon than fire/ground, since foxes are traditionally tricksters in most cultures I'm aware of, but I guess I could see that? I'm personally kinda hoping for fire/poison, but I'm probably alone there.

it's so cool they're releasing it at the same time everywhere. no scramble to try to emulate and translate the japanese version!

i hope it being all 3d models means you can customise your trainer a bit... even if only skin/hair colour

WHOO! I knew it was a matter of time before Pokemon main games came to the 3DS, hee. <3

Also, GUYS YOU D KNOW YOU CAN TURN OFF THE 3D ON THE 3DS RIGHT?! I see so many complaints, but you don't even need to keep the 3D on! Hell, I barely have mine on ever since I finished my playthrough of Dream Drop Distance so yeah. :B

Sure, but if I don't already own a 3DS, and the single, solitary, sole advantage one would have over a DSi is that it can play one game, which I wouldn't be able to enjoy to its fullest because I'd be turning an important feature off... why would I want one, if not because a series I generally like were requiring me to do so?

Actually, there are better specs to the 3DS beyond just the 3D capabilities. The graphics are better (even if it is hard to tell with some games - srsly, compare Dream Drop Distance to 358/2 Days or re:coded and there's a VERY big difference) and there's also a lot more space on a 3DS card than a DS one. In fact, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy was on the 3DS as opposed to the DS because of the technical limitations the DS posed. So there are more reasons as to why the 3DS is a separate system beyond just the 3D.

honestly, i've been putting off buying a 3ds solely because none of my must-have series were being released on it but truly it was only a matter of time before pokémon made the switch as well.

i knew i'd have to get one eventually and with monster hunter migrating over, i have even more incentive to upgrade and get to enjoy the apparently improved graphics!

it's good to know the 3d can be turned off though, that's a nice feature for those of us who can't experience 3d without migraines.

lol, I knew from the announcement of the 3DS I'd be getting one because that's also when they announced a KH title for 3DS so I was suckered in right away, ehehe. |D; But I had a feeling we'd be getting main series pokemon games eventually anyway so, it was a good investment for me. :B

And I actually can't play with the 3D on very long either because it messes with my eyes too much and does give me a headache if left on too long - as I learned the hard way with DDD, whoops~ x3 damn me and my stubbornness wanting to play all the way with the 3D on until I cleared the game!
